So I decided to attempt to film a tutorial of this look on my camera! It was the first time that I have attempted this so my camera work and focusing are not the best! My tutorial is for anyone with acne and uneven skintone. Despite being a trained beautician and working in the makeup and beauty industry for 8 years this is still something that I struggle with. I have previously worked for various brands so have tried out a wide range of products. It just goes to show that sometimes you can use all of the right products but your skin can still play up and cause you trouble! I would love it if you take a little look, by clicking the picture and let me know what you think. xx
I recently purchased a new camera and decided to film myself doing my every day makeup. Above is a photo of the products that I used. For my foundation I have taken to using the Clinique Continuous Coverage foundation as an all over base and afterwards I apply Nars Sheer Glow just so that it doesn’t look too heavy. I used the Collection concealer, which I love and the Rimmel powder to set it.
Here is a photo of the finished result… Excuse the awkward photo!
Today I took a trip to Boots to have a look round at the make-up. I really enjoy checking to see what each drugstore brand has to offer and take a closer look at the products I read about on blogs.
First of all I picked up the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. An old blogger favourite, I have had this twice before after reading about it and have always been happy with it. My Doublewear concealer had finished so I thought I would give this a go again and see how they match up.
I have never tried Rimmel’s eye liner before and had been on the look out for some different colours to my usual black. I went for the ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl in 005 Nude. I really wanted to try this as I have never owned a nude eyeliner before. I imagine that it will make my eyes look bigger and look more natural than using a white eyeliner. I really like the look of the creamy formulation aswell. I also went for the Soft Kohl liners in 021 Denim Blue and 064 Stormy Grey. I am really looking forward to trying these out and think they will be a nice change to my usual eye look. The best news was that they were on offer on a 3 for 2 deal, so I got all 3 liners for under £7!
Finally I chose the Loreal Perfect Match Crayon. This is a product I am very excited to try out. I had first heard about this around a year ago on an American beauty blog (Sorry, I can’t remember which one it was.) The girl had used it to contour and I was intrigued as it was a crayon style concealer which I hadn’t seen any other brand do before. I know that more recently contour crayons and pencils have become more popular but around this time last year this was the only product in this kind of style I had seen. I decided to buy it to give it a try as a contouring crayon. I am extremely pale and have picked a shade quite a bit darker than my skin colour. I will let you know how I get on.
Does anyone have any other recommendations?
I have fallen in love with Mac Paint Pots. I have tried many different cream eyeshadows before but these are my ultimate favourite. Sometimes in the winter months I suffer from very dry eyelids and I found that powder eyeshadow was just accentuating the dryness. I decided to swap over the a cream shadow and purchased MAC’s Indianwood and Rubenesque. For about the past 2 months I have worn one of the two EVERY SINGLE DAY! They are so quick and easy and actually last all day without a primer. Needless to say I decided I needed to invest in a few new colours, what with it being spring and all. I chose the colours Frozen Violet and Lets Skate to have a play around. I am really excited to try these out as an alternative to my usual browny/bronzey look. I also decided to purchase a new lipstick after seeing Shaanx0’s video on her top 10 MAC lipsticks. I went for the colour Pure Zen as it is totally different to anything that I would usually wear and I want to experiment.
Let me know your favourite Paint Pot shades, I can see myself building up quite a collection!
A few weeks ago I was watching QVC and a makeup artist from Laura Geller was on talking about their products. I hadn’t ever tried any of the Laura Geller products, but one set in particular caught my eye. The Eye Calligraphy Liquid Liner Set is a set of three quick dry liners, each with a different shaped tip. The idea is that you use a different line depending on which kind of look you are trying to achieve.
This tip was the main reason that I purchased this set. I have not owned or used anything like it before. The slanted tip is designed to create a moderate to thick line and create a cat eye look. I have been playing around with it and quite like it so far.
This tip is the fine tip. it helps to create a thin and delicate line. This one has been my most used so far. I love the the tip is quite flexible and it makes drawing the line very easy.
Lastly here is the classic tip, and that is exactly how I would describe it. It reminds me a lot of the Soap and Glory Supercat liner and is easy to work with.
Overall I am really impressed with this set. The price works out under £10 each for each liner which isn’t that much different from drugstore prices. I like that these are super black and last all day without smudging.
Have you tried any Laura Geller products before?
Last week I was browsing the beauty department in Debenhams Oxford Street when I noticed the Too Faced counter. I haven’t ever tried any of their products before but have read a few different reviews about their mascaras. I decided to take a look and really loved the look of their packaging and beautiful palettes. The beauty consultant was very helpful and talked me through the different mascaras. I asked her which one she was wearing and she told me that it was the Better Than Sex mascara. Her lashes looked super long and volumised so I decided to give it a go. The brush is not like any that I have used before. It is quite chunky and has an hour-glass shape to it. The colour is a nice intense black shade and after just one coat I could really notice the difference in my lashes.
I really like this mascara and so far have found that it stays on all day and doesn;t smudge or run. I really like the effect that it gives and would definitely recommend it.
Look at my lovely new Smashbox Color and Contour palette! I was given this as a birthday present as am so excited to try it out. It comes with 32 eye shadows, 3 blushes, a contouring powder, a bronzing powder and highlighting powder. The case is a really cute book style packaging.
I really love the look and idea of this palette. It seems perfect for traveling and contains just about every eye shadow colour I could possibly need! I will let you know how I get on with it once I have used it a few times.
It contains one side of neutral colours and the other side is full of brighter shades.
